Questions

Are the canvases painted by hand?

No. Each picture is made by the house with an image model, directed and chosen by us, and printed by our lab as a giclée on canvas. No brush touches the canvas you receive, and we will never describe it as hand-painted, signed or gilded.

Why do you never ask for a wallet address?

Because an address on a canvas on your wall is a map to your money. Anyone who photographs the canvas, a guest or a removals crew or a stranger on social media, could look up the balance and every payment since. The date marks the day you care about without pointing at the coins, so the date is the only thing the Genesis canvas asks for.

Where do the block height and the price come from?

The block height comes from mempool.space at the moment you set your plaque: we ask for the last block before midnight UTC on your date and take the one after it. The close is the day’s price in dollars from the Coin Metrics community daily file, retrieved on 12 October 2026, whose first close is 18 July 2010 and whose last is 23 May 2026.

Your proof links to both, so you can check the plaque before you pay. A date after 23 May 2026 is refused, because we will not print a close we do not have.

Why UTC and not my own time zone?

Block times are kept in UTC, and the Coin Metrics close is struck on the UTC day. Using one clock for both keeps the plaque checkable by anyone, anywhere. If you bought late in the evening in California, it was already the next day in UTC; set the plaque to whichever date you remember.

Can I pay in bitcoin?

No. Prices are in dollars and paid by card through Stripe. The sats figure beside every price is the same price at the 23 May 2026 close, printed so you can read it in the unit you think in.

Will a canvas go up in value?

We make no such claim, about this or any piece. It is a picture, printed in a numbered edition of 25. Buy it if you want it on your wall.

How are the editions numbered?

Every piece is an edition of 25 across all sizes. When your payment clears, your copy takes the next number for that piece in the order payments were made, the number travels with your order to the lab, and it goes on the public ledger with the size and date. Never your name.

What sizes, and how sharp is the print?

30 × 45 inches at 266 dpi, 40 × 60 inches at 200 dpi, 24 × 36 inches at 333 dpi. Each master is rebuilt for print at 8,000 by 12,000 pixels before it goes to the lab. Our lab does not make a 48 × 72 canvas, so a larger size is a conversation: write to us from Inquire.

Where do you deliver?

Inside the United States, with insured delivery included in the price. We have not yet priced freight to anywhere else, so for now write to us before you order and we will quote it.

Who is the Whale?

A sperm whale in a grey hoodie with the hood up, the sitter for every picture in the series. In the trade a whale is a holder large enough to move the market. Ours is not a real person, a logo or anyone else’s mascot, and in two of the ten pictures his eyes are lasers.

What if it arrives damaged?

Write to support@painted.app within 14 days of delivery with a photograph and we replace it or refund it. Each canvas is printed to order for you; the returns page covers everything else.
